Datawrapper Maps
Ever need to make a quick graph, but have no idea how to use Excel? Great! Cause Datawrapper is the answer for you!
Datawrapper is one of the best ways to convert plain data into something visual, whether a chart, map or table. It provides options to easily create elegant and clean diagrams that can be used anywhere. Take a look as I dive into the various types of options Datawrapper provides.
#1 - Maps
I absolutely love maps. They just stand out in every way, being such a grounding force that makes you instantly understanding what is being conveyed.
For me, I know that any map chart is instantly more relatable and easily digestible for me, as it is something I can look more into and be like, “Why is this happening here?”.
For my charts, I wanted to show off both iOS vs Android across the world, and Wineries in each state, as I think these are excellent ways to portray what makes these charts so special.
#2 - Charts
Charts are an excellent way to explore data, being a simple and easy way to convey information that anyone can understand. This basic forms of visualization are the heart of many data sets, being the main way that people see trends based off the information.
In my own job, I often look towards these pie charts above and line graphs to better understand what metrics are working and which are lacking.
For my chart, I chose to show the number of US citizen traveling abroad and where they are going to, being an interesting way to both show the number of people traveling and the market share that each region holds.
#3 - Table
While tables aren’t always fun like a nice chart or map, it does have a purpose sometimes, offering more information than just the bigger picture ideas that a graph will normally provide.
Tables give you data in the raw, and a glimpse into the individual aspects of each row and column.
In this table, I have the percent of graduates per state by degree level, showing exactly how many people in each state went through high school or college. I would love to also use this information in the future to make a more visual diagram as well, however a table does show all the information that this dataset provides.
Overall, almost any of these can be applied to any specific situation, it all just depends on what you need. I know I’ll definitely be making more cool maps in the future!
