Creating an Event Website
The Challenge
Across the world, awesome events are constantly being put on, featuring amazing new artists, performers, and more, all there to create and entertain. Festivals and events are some of the great ways to bring artists across genres together in one place. But, there can’t be any event without a site to support it, so it’s imperative that we make one before it goes the artists go live.
Competitor Analysis
The event industry is full of creatives, and it helps immensely to see what others have done or are doing to give some guidance on what can help and what can hurt.
One of the main aspects these sites have is striking vibrance, whether through a hero image on the EDC’s site or through their set list on Lollapalooza’s. Being able to have something to draw in your audience is what is going to get them to stay. Similarly, is adding all your necessary information right at the top so they know where it is, how much, and when.
Color and Type Studies
For any event, it is important to have strong branding that defines you or your brand from your competitors, and for an event centered around water, it wasn’t too hard to figure everything out. I found that the blue in the logo worked and felt strong while also fun, and along with some other fun bright colors, it can make the branding stand out even more.
Type is also a differentiator, and having something that felt bold and impactful would stand out the most, especially for any event looking to find new festivalgoers. Korolev fit the bill perfectly for this.
Wireframes
Creating wireframes can greatly help you figure out how everything should work, where things need to go, and how you want your flow to work. This can be one of the biggest help, especially if it’s done well enough that your assets can, later on, be straight-up dragged and dropped in.
Final Designs
This project was so fun to work on, it gave me an opportunity to really test my skills in web and UX design. Working on something such as an event gives you insight into what the process that goes into running something like this entails, and how much organization it requires. Having a certain level of consistency is what people expect, and people aren’t going to go through a hassle to figure out your site if its confusing, so make it simple.
